Oud, the wood of the gods, has an equivalent in Tuscany that is just as exceptional as the variety from the East.

Incēnsum, -i, is a Latin neuter noun meaning that which is burned or ignited.

In ancient times, dried resins or wood were placed in braziers and lit to produce aromatic fumes. The goal of guiding the mind and spirit upward toward the deities has been a tradition among peoples around the world. Certainly every religion has used incense fumes in religious or sacrificial rites. But what resins were burned? The Egyptians used kyphi, composed of about 16 ingredients (though some say 60), including dried grapes, wine, myrrh, rosewood, and others.

The Greeks  had the best incense production on Mount Athos, and one of the most widely used resins was mastic resin (Pistacia Lentiscus), grown on the island of Chios. Palo Santo wood (Bursera Graveolens), which grows in Central and South America, was used by Native Americans  to ward off negative energies. Romans  made ointments and burned herbs and scented woods in large bronze thuribles.

Indians  used powdered sandalwood (Santalum Album), and the Arabs  used oud wood (Aquilaria Malaccensis).

The Incense Route was a trade route that connected India, Europe, Arabia, and Africa. Spices, foods, resins, and scented woods reached all countries where people wanted to experience the mystical experience of perfume. Incense from the East and incense from the West.

The Tuscans  also have their own scented woods and resins. Oakmoss (Evernia Prunastri), pine resin (Pinus Sylvester), fir resin (Abies Alba), juniper wood (Juniperus Communis), cypress wood (Cupressus Sempervirens), laurel wood (Laurus Nobilis). And more.

At the present time in Casalvento, we’ve learned to work with the woods, mosses, and resins of native plants to maximize their fragrance. Oud the wood of the gods of tuscany is present in the juniper wood: an exceptional fragrance. We produce a special Juniper wood Absolute  with a deeply aromatic and woody character

Although the aroma isn’t immediately present in botanicals we need to mature it over time. Long maturation and humid environments are required for woody aromas, rapid drying and shade for herbaceous aromas, and rain and sunshine for resinous aromas.

Extensive research into aromatic botanicals in the Chianti region and a unique expertise in producing incense from them.

All natural, without the use of any chemical processes, but only divine patience.
