Born in 1892, painter Vittorio Zani was born, studied, worked, and died in Siena in 1972. A true Sienese.
He painted the banner for the August Palio, won by the Nobile Contrada del Bruco in 1922. Vittorio Zani created the sketches for the renewal of the costumes for the Palio di Siena in 1928 and 1955. He painted the Hall of Victories for his Contrada della Torre and decorated palaces and villas in the Siena area.
An eclectic painter Vittorio Zani illustrated books, periodicals, and degree certificates from the University of Siena. In his later years, he spent much time in the Chianti region and developed a passion for rural activities. Zani now express his art through paintings and participating in group and solo exhibitions. His artistic talent also expanded into the design of labels for Brunello di Montalcino wine, several olive oil brands, and Casalvento’s Lavanda del Chianti. He redesigned the symbol of a bank, the most famous at the time, Monte dei Paschi di Siena.
Since 1962, Casalvento has framed each of its cosmetic products with this elegant cascade of flowers and bunches of grapes. The sketch was exhibited with some bottles of Lavander of Chianti in the Magazzini del Sale at the City of Siena during a monographic exhibition of his works held from October 1 to November 6, 2005. The cover of the exhibition catalog is shown in the image above.
But for Giovanni Domini, he painted the heraldic coat of arms “Arma Dòmini“, which is used by the Casalvento company to distinguish the labels of its Chianti Classico wine, olive oil, absolutes, and other non-cosmetic products.
